It seems that for certain individuals exposed to chrome, one of the linked skin issues is the emergence of ‘chrome holes’. Right now I have a small number of these forming around where my base ring sits, covered in an unsightly black crust. Sounds delightful, doesn’t it? I’m wearing one of those affordable Chinese gadgets from DHgate. After roughly six weeks of use and gradually trimming down the hair to be shorter and shorter, just recently I removed the clipper guard entirely for a more aggressive shave. I recall getting some tugs on a few hairs, which are exactly where these chrome holes appeared. Checking my base ring, it’s clear they line up with spots where the chrome plating is wearing off—who would have guessed that my sweat was so corrosive! So, I plan to return to using the HT2 for now until those areas heal and disappear completely. It’s a bit of a pity since I’d just begun testing out shortening this metal device (by packing polymorph into the front) in preparation for ordering something higher quality. Oh well, another reason to place that order sooner rather than later. They act corrosively when penetrating the skin via a small cut or break in the surface tissue, leading to chronic ulcerative sores called “chrome holes”. Usually located on fingers, hands, or forearms. “Chrome holes” can also appear on the tops of feet if chrome salts seep into boots or shoes. These spots are generally painless and last for several months before healing naturally with permanent atrophic scarring. Similar lesions can be caused by arsenic or zinc salts too, though that’s rarer.
So yes, chrome holes. Has anyone else experienced them?
