I pierced my PA in the middle of January and posted a report with multiple updates.
It’s time for a three-month check-in. Healing has been mostly smooth. General consensus is that PA piercings tend to have few issues, which matches my experience.
By late March, I moved from 8ga up to 6ga (3.2mm to 4mm). I used a taper to gently expand the hole while showering; being in warm water kept all the tissue soft and pliable. After applying gentle pressure for five or ten minutes, the larger jewelry slid right through. The actual diameter was closer to 3.8mm, which probably helped with that step. I sourced it from Painful Pleasures, who produce decent quality items at reasonable prices. Because I didn’t plan on wearing this piece long-term, I wasn’t keen on paying a premium for intricate craftsmanship. That said, PP might cut their sizes down slightly.
The discharge went up just a bit—going from almost none to needing to wash off some morning gunk. I see that as evidence of healing continuing.
Two weeks later, I’m trying to get used to wearing an Evotion Wearable device (with its 6ga pin). Progress has been sluggish. The pattern is: put the device on, feel a bit of irritation from the piercing, switch back to my stainless steel jewelry, and watch the irritation fade quickly. So it’s been up and down like that. The annoyance never gets severe; perhaps I just need another day or two for things to calm down. Alternatively, maybe I should keep the SS jewelry in place for a full month longer to let the piercing stabilize fully. I’ll make my call within the next few days.
I figured by now I’d be able to take the jewelry out for about half an hour without trouble, but that hasn’t been true. Several times I’ve left it out for around fifteen minutes and struggled to reinsert it. In fact, I often have to use a taper and stretch the opening slightly before sliding the bar back through.
