Denied from a Busy Day

My wife and I got lucky with a last-minute getaway to a beach house that’s usually tough to book, all thanks to just one week’s notice. It appeared out of nowhere, and they asked if we could make it work for the following week. I’ve already spent five weeks in my current lockup, so she figured this was the perfect opportunity to let me loose for a bit. She’s been bringing up the idea every few days since we booked it. Today is departure day, but just 30 minutes into our drive, she pulls off that classic ‘hand to forehead’ gesture. “I forgot the key.” Which one? She points down at my crotch. Since she was driving, I suggested we turn back around. “I was looking forward to it too. What a pity.” Honestly, I think she really did forget it, though I also know we could have headed back right then and there. She gets her release, and I get an IOU in return. But this added layer of denial wasn’t part of the plan.
