I usually cast a lower vote because I suspect the system will just cap out at their hard maximum anyway. Still, I find the tickers entertaining... there is definitely fun in watching others push your time from something manageable to delightfully long. Perhaps I am misinterpreting it though... If you are posting with the possibility of longer times in mind... then maybe I should simply award them the maximum so they receive their just reward <3

In that scenario, something like a week in then out, followed by another week in and out, would create the most hardship. The man would spend a much larger portion of his time in the "Why on earth am I doing this?" phase, which is some of the hardest suffering.
A few years back, Sarah Jameson (who was running a blog/book project, though it has since collapsed) wrote that if a new KH is uncertain, she should ask her partner how long he thinks he can handle... and then add 50% to 100% on top of his estimate. Some people get their kink from the control aspect, while others enjoy the denial. Regardless, vote for the maximum time. They will either love the experience or learn not to be so foolish next time.
My two cents: it really hinges on what the KH desires. If she (or he) wishes to unlock him so he can enjoy himself (for any reason), then let it be. If she wants to keep him caged, then that is how it shall proceed. The optimal duration is up to the KH to decide,, and even for the same KH this might fluctuate day-to-day or month-to-month etc. So it is essentially a redundant question.
I always cast the max vote because I have observed changes in My Darling as he remains caged longer. His sensitivity heightens and small random touches become more pleasurable for him. His mood shifts with prolonged lockup (being denied an orgasm), which makes him happier. So extended locks allow others to experience the transformations linked to denial.
