Alright, so my aesthetician and friend M volunteered to keep the key for me this Wednesday until I see her again on February 29th. It just slipped out in her office that I wished someone would take charge of it. Before long, M is holding onto it until our next visit. Since she’s in a steady, monogamous partnership, nothing romantic will develop between us; she’ll mainly check in to ensure everything is running smoothly. Later today, my best friend and FWB S—who knows the whole story about me and is married with an open/poly arrangement—stopped by for movies. She gave me a hug and noticed I hadn’t protruded enough, so her hand brushed against my cage and she made a comment. Assuming I’d locked myself again, she asked if that was true. I explained that M had the key (S knows this because I introduced them over a year ago). S expressed interest in taking possession of it herself, and we spent much of the day discussing our desires, preferences, boundaries, and limits. To cut to the chase: after M returns it on the 29th, S will take hold for a period. We agreed it won’t be constant control, but she’ll reward or torment me based on how I behave. I’m quite anxious because previously only my ex-girlfriend held my key, and I’ve never been part of a poly dynamic before. This is all fresh territory for me, though we both feel open communication is crucial. It feels like it could be really enjoyable; I hope so deeply, even if the nerves remain.
