Hi there. I’ve been considering turning my metal Chinese ball trap into a secure full belt.
My plan is to use vinyl-coated cables available at home improvement centers. I’ll make a waist strap using these cables along with aluminum hammer-down fittings, securing it with D-rings and a small pad lock. Then I’d connect the two posts on top of the ball trap device to this waist band both front-to-back (passing between my legs) and side-to-side.
This setup would press the upper part of the unit toward me to stop pullout while reducing pressure on my testicles. I’ve tested with rope that’s roughly as thick as the cable, and the idea works well. The key is getting each cable length spot-on because the previous rope dug quite deep into my hip.
I’m wondering if standard home improvement store cables are safe for this use. I don’t know if the vinyl coating holds up long-term against skin contact or if the metal might rust underneath.
What do you think? Has anyone done something similar?
