Overcoming an addiction requires two key elements: first and foremost, the individual must genuinely desire to quit; secondly, they need support, empathy, and perhaps medication like antidepressants as substitutes. Love helps too. In my view, a spiked cage might actually worsen things. Apologies if I sound pessimistic.
