This is an inquiry I have reflected on many times since my beloved first showed it to me. At first, it was tough for me. Adjusting to what she expected felt challenging. How can a person willingly ask another to lock their genitals so they lose the ability to find sexual pleasure or release? It took some time for me to grasp the advantage and delight of being a key holder. It goes far beyond that initial question. The journey isn’t always smooth, particularly because our relationship is quite unconventional. Sometimes I still struggle with “being mean.” That’s how she puts it. She enjoys my meanness. She likes when I tease her or say harsh things. Often, I just want to love her, snuggle close, and support her. I’ve come to see that I can do all those loving acts while maintaining the balance. To me, the happiness of holding her key lies in her absolute trust. She trusts my judgment for our mutual good. The enjoyment I feel from seeing her locked is nearly beyond words. Nearly. I never realized how having this person would fill a void within me. How she would unlock Pandora’s box and guide me into this new world together. I am grateful to have entered this way of life.
