For self-locking and remote/internet-controlled devices, you handle it on your own. But when both you and your keyholder are there, who shuts the padlock to seal your destiny? Do you have to do it yourself or does she prefer doing it for you?
Personally, my Key Mistress does a bit of both. Sometimes She makes quite an event out of applying and locking it; other times She gets lazy and has me do everything. Either way, She always verifies the security with a small tug and says, “There, all safe and secure now.”
What about everyone else’s experiences?
