@Tullyboy missed a post, so I added Auto Drafts to ensure that was the final loss. Edit: After this update @Naljeans also lost one, which led me to turn off quick replies. By default it saves every 20 seconds - you can change this in User Control Panel -> Board Preferences -> Auto Draft. A draft of your writing is saved automatically. Edit: This feature functions within the “Full Editor” for both New Topic and Post Reply. If you are using Quick Reply, click “Full Editor & Preview” to activate auto-saving. Note that quick replies remain disabled in the Journal forum. Should you leave the posting area or close your browser window, the draft will reload automatically next time you select “New Topic”, “Post Reply”, or “Full Editor & Preview”. This is the default behavior, though it can be overridden via User Control Panel. Another setting ensures drafts are removed after submission. The saved drafts hold text content but exclude attachments. All your drafts appear and can be modified in the User Control Panel.
