! I recently bought a key keeper for both men and women. It’s a chrome-plated holder with an opening over the crotch area that accepts a specific key designed to secure your ring. I intend to enter builder mode and convert it into a mini safe door capable of storing Lori’s emergency key. This is actually my third purchase of this type. The first one broke while I was attaching the hinge, but the second functioned properly. When you open the holder plate—much like a bathroom mirror—it reveals the inner compartment thanks to a magnetic latch. That inner part is an inexpensive plastic fire box from Walmart with a fixed security code that cannot be reset. A few months ago, I had to use the emergency key when one of the pins connecting my old CBxxx ring tube came loose. Now that I am in builder mode, I have been exploring methods to create or find a remote locking and unlocking safe without breaking the bank on pre-made options, especially since finding a safe in the right size is tricky. To solve this, I constructed a metal box measuring 4.3”H x 3.15”W x 6.5”D using quarter-inch sheets, which mounts to a wall stud. The key holder attaches to the front plate of the safe; one side is hinged while the other locks. The complexity lies in the lock mechanism. I am employing a sliding bolt style lock welded to the interior of the safe door. This bolt extends through an opening in the side wall into another tube inside the stud frame. An electromagnet mounted on the opposite panel near the hinge controls whether the bolt is engaged or disengaged. A three-way manual switch allows me to test it, and everything appears to be functioning well. I am currently researching how to obtain a key that can be accessed via WiFi or web interface without high costs. I have several TCP/IP controllers in mind that would let me toggle the relay/switch. The challenge is locating one with an affordable mobile app for both iPhone and Android, complete with password protection. I am awaiting responses from two companies that seem to fit my needs, but please share any other suggestions you might have.;) What? I enjoy building things when boredom sets in.:ugeek:
