For the first time ever, I took my JailBird through airport security at O’Hare in Chicago. Since I had plenty of extra time before departure, I decided to test it out. While waiting in line, I mentioned to a TSA officer that I was carrying “some body jewelry which might set off the scanner.” He seemed completely unfazed and advised me to let the person operating the scanner know when I approached; he also suggested I’d likely want a private pat-down. I followed his advice and went through the walk-through scanner (not the metal detector). The officer on the other side glanced at my left wrist, where my Apple Watch was strapped on, but then waved me along without issue. It’s unclear if they simply didn’t detect the JailBird or recognized it immediately from the scan image, either way I passed right through.
