I physically cannot get the ring on and I have been at it for an hour

Everything arrived on Tuesday. I have now spent the best part of an hour on two separate evenings failing to get the base ring on, and I am starting to wonder whether I have bought the wrong thing entirely.

It is not that it is too small once it is on. I cannot get to the point of finding out. I get partway and then it will not go, and eventually I give up because it is starting to feel like a bad idea to keep forcing it.

Stopping when it starts feeling like a bad idea is the right instinct, keep that. Two things that fix this for most people: do it when you are completely cold and relaxed rather than at the end of an evening, and use something slippery. Trying to do it dry is the single most common reason people conclude they have bought the wrong size.

Cold shower first. Sounds miserable, works.

Also check which way you are going. A hinged or two-piece ring assembles around you rather than being pulled on, and a lot of people fight a solid ring for a week before finding out the kit contained a hinged one they had not identified.

There are two ring shapes in the box and I had assumed the second one was a spare size. I will look at that tonight.

One safety note while you experiment. If anything goes numb or changes colour while you are trying, stop for the evening and try again another day. Nothing about this is urgent and the injuries people do get at this stage almost all come from an hour of determined effort rather than from wearing anything.
